Model 36

SHE HAS BEEN WATCHED HER WHOLE LIFE. Three years after her twin sister vanished, Lana Kevellian has stopped expecting answers. Then her engine fails over the English countryside and her mobile rings. A private number. He knows her name. He knows she's in trouble. He knows what Rebecca was doing the night she disappeared. Three people have ever known that. One of them is Lana. One of them is missing. The trail leads to a cult on a Greek island, to people who speak about Rebecca in the present tense, and then somewhere she has never thought to look: at her own life. Every argument, every bad night, every choice she was certain was her own. Someone has been on the other side of it, and when she wavered, they leaned. Now she knows and nobody else does. She can keep it to herself and let the people she loves go on believing their lives are theirs. Or she can say it aloud and take the world with her. For readers of Blake Crouch's Dark Matter and Hervé Le Tellier's The Anomaly, with the creeping dread of The Truman Show, Model 36 is a philosophical sci-fi thriller about what a life is worth when someone else is holding the controls.
