"Another blue ribbon, Clara? Someone's been a busy bee," Brenda teased, her eyes twinkling. Clara blushed, clutching the award for her apple pie. "It's just a pie, Brenda." "Just a pie that's caught the eye of a certain someone," Brenda whispered, nodding towards the newcomer with the smoldering gaze. "He's been watching you like you're the dessert he wants to devour." Clara's heart skipped a beat. Jake, the rugged stranger with the captivating eyes, was indeed watching her, a slow smile playing on his lips. "Don't you dare blush, Clara," Brenda chuckled. "Unless it's from the thought of him tasting that pie off of you." Clara gasped, but a thrill shot through her. Jake was trouble, the kind of trouble she'd been craving without even knowing it. Later, amidst the festival's laughter and music, Jake's voice was a low rumble in her ear. "That pie," he murmured, his breath warm against her skin, "it was almost as sweet as you." Clara's breath hitched. This was more than just a small-town fling. This was a wildfire waiting to ignite.
