Morphosyntactic Features of Angolan Portuguese in Vidas Novas: Sociolinguistics, Literature, and Identity

The Portuguese spoken and written in Angola has its own morphosyntactic characteristics, resulting from the historical contact between the Portuguese language and the Bantu languages. This study analyzes these features in José Luandino Vieira's collection Vidas Novas, with the aim of identifying and describing morphosyntactic traits representative of Angolan Portuguese (PA). It is grounded in Variational Sociolinguistics, integrated with the sociology of literature, and adopts a qualitative, bibliographic, and exploratory approach based on a comprehensive analysis of the eight short stories in the collection. Forty-eight occurrences were identified, distributed across sixteen grammatical categories, notably the generalization of proclisis, the use of *lhe* as a direct object, the omission of the particle *que*, and the reorganization of periphrastic verbal constructions. The results demonstrate that these features constitute stable structural traits of PA, explainable by interference from Bantu languages, linguistic economy, and normative uncertainty, further confirming the continued relevance of these phenomena.
