Mrs McColl’s Garden - Secret Places

Every garden has its secrets. You just have to know where to look.To Mrs McColl, her garden is a place of flowers, vegetables, winding paths and quiet afternoons. But Archie Thistledown and his friends know there is much more hiding beneath the leaves.Behind the old stones are passages travelled by beetles. Beneath the hedges run secret highways used by hedgehogs. An ordinary compost heap is home to a bustling community, forgotten flowerpots have become tiny houses, and beneath the roses lies a network of tunnels belonging to a rather private mole.Even the familiar apple tree has secrets hidden inside its trunk. As Fergus, Mertyl, Douglas, Gregor, Hilda, Morag and the rest of the garden friends explore these unseen corners, they discover that not every secret place needs to be entered, mapped or changed. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is simply notice that somebody else calls it home.Filled with gentle humour, friendship, curiosity and the quiet magic of the natural world, Mrs McColl's Garden: Secret Places contains twelve cosy stories celebrating all the tiny lives hidden in an ordinary garden.Perfect for bedtime reading, reading aloud together, or for young nature lovers who have ever wondered what might be living beneath a stone, inside an old tree or just beyond the garden path.Because the smallest places can hold the biggest worlds.
