In recent years forensic medicine has achieved enormous progress, especially in the field of forensic DNA-typing. This raises quite a few criminal procedural as well as constitutional questions: Is it legally admissible to produce genetic identikit pictures? German legislation has recognized the need for action; in the coalition agreement for the 18th legislation period it is planned to allow near familial matches in DNA-mass screenings according to 81h StPO. The author takes this as an occasion to revise the lex lata considering the latest medical research findings and to propose a reform for 81e-h StPO.
