Next Season

Gray's Sporting Journal (September, 2026) says: "Dalton believes the best way to spend our ever-dwindling allotment of time is with a day afield, and in Next Season, he makes his case, compellingly. The author writes fondly and sentimentally of his friends and acquaintances, both living and gone, relaying conversations had at gun club and in the field, reminding the reader how a kindred companion- with two legs or four-can fortify the spirit during bitter cold and missed birds, heighten anticipation, strengthen resolve, and make success all the sweeter....It serves as a wakeup call to stop putting off life's worthwhile pursuits until next season-whether that means planning the next hunt, spending time with those who matter, or finally ordering that fine Spanish side-by-side."In the tradition of Twenty Years at the Shamrock Gun Club (2024), Next Season is a collection of reflective bird hunting essays exploring the quiet satisfactions of days afield.
