Night Work

An affair. An execution. A masterpiece painted in blood. For our narrator, sleeping with a married woman was his greatest sin. But that guilt is instantly shattered when he watches an eccentric, sword-wielding prince drop from the sky and slash his lover's throat in broad daylight. The protagonist is quickly pulled into the dangerous, oddly charming orbit of this regal serial killer. The trail leads to Ginger Hill, a secluded mansion ruled by the prince's mother, a small crew of loyal servants, a robot nurse, and decades of monstrous, clandestine deviancy. An elegant, insidious artist, the prince uses headless corpses for creative inspiration. But his dark muse is threatened when a new romance sparks a desire to turn his violent fixations into something peaceable. As stolen jewels, missing bodies, and whispered confessions collide, a hardened bail bondswoman, a depressed writer, and a determined henchman are dragged into the madness. Our narrator must decide whether the prince's devotion is proof of something transcendent, or the most seductive lie of all. Night Work is a darkly comedic, grotesquely romantic thriller about lust mistaken for love, and love sharpened until it cuts.
