Nobody's Dog: A Memoir of Three Legs, Human Cruelty, and Survival

Some true stories cannot be invented. In the winter of 2020, a dog was found in a drainage ditch - beaten, abandoned, and missing a leg. No owner. No name. Forty-seven days in an overcrowded shelter, facing a wall, days away from euthanasia.Nobody claimed him. Nobody wanted him.Nobody's Dog is a work of narrative nonfiction and a true-life memoir reconstructed from medical records, shelter intake logs, veterinary files, security camera footage, and first-hand interviews with nine witnesses - the shopkeeper who first fed him, the surgeon who saved his life, the shelter manager who gave him two more weeks, the volunteer who sat on a concrete floor and read aloud for four weeks, and the family who finally brought him home.Eight months after his adoption, at 3 a.m. on a February night, every medical monitor failed and a child's blood sugar crashed to a life-threatening 34. The dog scratched at a closed bedroom door until someone woke up.The emergency physician said: "Another thirty minutes and we would be having a very different conversation."This is a memoir about ordinary people making small, unremarkable decisions that changed everything - and about what an animal does when it is finally, after everything, safe.Perfect for readers who love: - True-life memoirs and biographical narrative nonfiction- Survival stories rooted in documented real events- Inspirational biographies about resilience and second chances- Books that read like literary fiction but are entirely trueAbout the author: Rhyshabh Shah is the author of IQ Tests for Adults. Nobody's Dog is his second book, drawn from two years of original research and interviews. His name when they found him was Ghost. He only knew how to pay attention. He only knew how to stay.
