Nostalgic Bangladesh The First Twenty-Five Springs of My Life Before the Fulbright Scholarship opened the door to a new continent, there was a world I knew as home: the quiet courtyards of childhood, the rhythms of village life, devoted teachers shaping a young mind, the companionship of friends and classmates, the crowded streets of Dhaka, and the dreams of a young man coming of age in Bangladesh-a nation struggling to define its destiny. Nostalgic Bangladesh is the first part of a two-part memoir, tracing the first twenty-five springs of my life in Bangladesh. It follows my journey from childhood classrooms through Dhaka College and the University of Dhaka, while history unfolds around me-the Liberation War, the birth of Bangladesh, and the political and social turbulence of its formative years. But this is more than a record of events. It is a return to a vanished world. Across four decades, I revisit the people and places that shaped me and the country that became the first landscape of my life. I do not seek to offer a flawless historical chronicle, but to preserve the past as I experienced it and reflect honestly on what it meant. Ultimately, this is a story of formation-and of a young man learning to imagine a future beyond the boundaries of his homeland. In 1985, I left Bangladesh on a Fulbright Scholarship. I carried my country with me.
