Not Every Wind Is the Spirit: Discernment In a Charismatic Age

Not Every Wind Is the Spirit: Discernment in a Charismatic Age is a bold, biblical, and timely call for Christians to recover discernment in an era where spiritual claims are abundant but scriptural clarity is often lacking. In a culture captivated by experiences, emotionalism, prophetic impressions, and sensational movements, this book asks an urgent question: Is every spiritual phenomenon truly from the Holy Spirit? With pastoral conviction and theological depth, S. Dwayne Carroll examines the person and work of the Holy Spirit through the lens of Scripture. Readers are guided through key doctrines such as the deity and personhood of the Spirit, the sufficiency of Scripture, the Spirit's role in redemptive history, regeneration, sanctification, and the purpose of spiritual gifts. Rather than diminishing the Spirit's power, this book seeks to define it biblically-showing that the Spirit's primary work is to glorify Christ, illuminate the Word, convict of sin, and produce holiness in the lives of believers.Addressing modern charismatic trends with both truth and grace, Carroll challenges teachings that elevate private revelations, subjective impressions, and spectacle above the authority of God's written Word. He calls the church back to the historic Christian conviction that the Holy Spirit never contradicts Scripture, never competes with Christ, and never leads believers away from biblical truth. This book is ideal for pastors, church leaders, and everyday believers who desire a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit and a stronger foundation for spiritual discernment. If you have ever wrestled with questions about prophecy, tongues, revival movements, or how to test modern spiritual claims, Not Every Wind Is the Spirit offers clear answers rooted in Scripture and rich with pastoral wisdom. In a confused age, this book reminds the church that true revival is not measured by hype, noise, or novelty-but by repentance, truth, holiness, and the exaltation of Jesus Christ.
