Laura Cole, a Scottish process engineer, is not doing great. Recently out of university and thrust into the real world, she's balancing a new job in the Norwegian oil and gas industry, a long-distance relationship and a growing affection for alcohol. Stressful business trips and the culture shock of Scandinavia aren't helping. Neither are her friends, co-workers or family members. Everyone seems to struggle and look to unhealthy outlets for relief. They drink too much, mess up at work and plan affairs-if they're not having them already. Upon a chance encounter with a rival co-worker, Laura discovers her own susceptibility to the same destructive temptations that seduce those around her. It gets her wondering: when it comes to the way she treats herself, to the collapsing relationships all around or to her questionable line of work-does anyone care about the future, or are we all doomed?
