Only A Dog (Modern English Edition): The Greyfriars Bobby of World War One

When the Germans invade his peaceful French home, a loyal Irish Terrier races into the chaos of World War I searching for his young master. Wounded and alone in the deadly stretch of No Man's Land, he is rescued by a brave British sniper named Private Rice. The soldiers name him Army. From that moment on, the little terrier never leaves Rice's side-through the mud of the trenches, the terror of battle, and the quiet moments of friendship among the men.Told through Army's own eyes, this story, that has been voted one of the greatest dog stories of all time, is a heartfelt portrait of courage, sacrifice, and the unbreakable bond between a soldier and his dog.Based on real events near Armentières in Flanders, Only a Dog is a moving tribute to loyalty that lasts beyond life itself. The original 1917 dialogue and language, which many modern readers found difficult, have been carefully updated while preserving the heart and authenticity of Bertha Whitridge Smith's classic tale.
