Oxidation of Organic Compounds by in-situ prepared Sodium Ferrate: Transition Metal Catalyzed Ferrate

The present book entitled "Oxidation of Organic Compounds by in-situ prepared Sodium Ferrate" deals with study of the oxidation of hydrocarbons (aromatic and alicyclic) and alcohols (aromatic and alicyclic) by sodium ferrate (VI).This book contains the oxidation of some aliphatic and aromatic compounds with in-situ prepared sodium ferrate from the synthetic point of view. Multistep, tedious and time-consuming process of separating potassium ferrate in the solid form before its use as an oxidant may be eliminated by using in-situ prepared sodium ferrate. The most interesting and important observation in the present study is that by monitoring the reaction conditions in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol, the oxidation may be stopped either at benzaldehyde state or it may be carried further to get benzoic acid. Present study also throws light on the fact that addition of small amount of Bronsted or Lewis acid enhances the oxidizing capacity of sodium ferrate to a great extent. These results are extremely important from the industrial, economic and synthetic point of views.
