The applicability of serum p53 and CTHRC1 as biomarkers in cervical cancer was demonstrated in the study. The serum CTHRC1 had a high sensitivity of 92.5%, and serum p53 had a moderate sensitivity of 60.0% with an acceptable discriminant ability for cervical cancer. Considering the results of the present study, where some socio-demographic, clinical and laboratory variables were found linked to the regulation of serum p53 and CTHRC1, there is a need for further research in this domain. The present study shall guide further large-scale studies, which may prospectively look at HPV infection and its progression to invasive cervical cancer concerning gene expression and serum profiling of biomarkers such as p53 and CTHRC1 over longitudinal follow-ups.
