Anglo-Saxon common sense and pragmatism is responsible for law, liberty, and government of the people. Those who dismiss pre-1066 England as the 'Dark Ages' are terribly wrong. We owe our forebears a debt that is impossible to measure. In Germania (A.D. 98) Tacitus wrote about a people who had laws, morals, and an organised society based on folk right, customary common law, exercised at folk moots. These were precursors to our representative parliamentary democracy. Recently, politicians have sought to overthrow the will of the people. To defend our inheritance requires an understanding of history. This book is a detailed examination of events from Anglo-Saxon times to now. It paints a picture of a people struggling to recover their rights whilst at the same time leading the world in science, commerce, engineering, culture, and law. Our island story demonstrates that the people will not be thwarted. A proper understanding of our national journey will help us to restore our folk right.
