In Urdu, most of the poetic and prose genres were included under the influence of the West. One such prose genre is reportage. It moved forward with the progressive movement. Reportage is a journalistic genre, it was used as a literary genre only in Urdu literature. Krishan Chander wrote reportage in 1947 under the name "Paudey (Plants)". This effort of his was conscious and he presented it as reportage.
