Bol Partner This title brings together two iconic series from one of Britain's most highly acclaimed photographers. Europe: America explores two crucial moments in the artistic career of Paul Graham through the juxtaposition of two of his most iconic series: New Europe (1986-1992) and A Shimmer of Possibility (2004-2006). The first was the result of a trip made through Europe, and the second through the United States. New Europe , developed between 1988 and 1993 explores the tensions that the artist and others felt with respect to the future of Europe, as well as the recent past, from the Second World War to the fall of the Berlin Wall. In A Shimmer of Possibility Graham set his gaze upon the United States where, through capturing images of public spaces and the people passing through them, he explored themes of isolation. In both series, Graham portrays social realities with a sense of historical scale that rises above both documentary and narrative traditions in photography. Combined, they offer a vision of the recent past that is of great relevance today.
