Paul to the Divided Church: An Imagined Modern Epistle on Faith, Politics, Pride, and Christian Unity

The church has always disagreed. The harder question is what disagreement is permitted to make of us. Christians today are divided by politics, personalities, denominations, cultural loyalties, questions of conscience, and competing ideas about what faithfulness requires. Convictions matter. Truth matters. But what happens when conviction hardens into contempt, loyalty excuses hypocrisy, anger begins to feel righteous, and defeating the other side matters more than loving well? Paul to the Divided Church imagines how the enduring concerns of the Apostle Paul might confront the modern church. Drawing on the themes of his canonical letters, Miriam Kingsley examines factionalism, political allegiance, spiritual pride, celebrity leadership, Christian liberty, public speech, wealth, anger, enemies, disagreement, and the difficult work of remaining one body without pretending every difference is unimportant. This is not newly discovered Scripture, prophecy, or an attempt to put modern political opinions into Paul's mouth. It is an exercise in Christian devotional imagination-an invitation to return to the biblical record and ask whether the problems Paul confronted in Corinth, Rome, Philippi, and elsewhere have taken new forms in our own churches, communities, and conversations. The challenge is not to surrender conviction for the sake of superficial peace. It is to recover a Christian life in which truth does not require cruelty, correction does not require humiliation, political participation does not become political discipleship, and disagreement does not become permission for hatred. Before deciding which Christians most need to hear this message, begin with the harder question: What has division been permitted to make of you?
