This book provides a review of the clinical aspects of pediatric endocrinology, with an emphasis on emerging areas of clinical practice. The book includes a basic science review and a discussion of clinical care for conditions commonly seen by specialists in this area. There is an emphasis on nutrition, PMOS (formerly PCOS), and weight management, as these are important areas of growth in practice. Much work has been accomplished on better defining the root causes of pediatric obesity, and there are now several therapeutic options. These are reviewed in detail in this book. Type 1 diabetes mellitus is also reviewed in detail, as this remains a disorder of critical importance in pediatric endocrine practice. There are additional discussions of pituitary, thyroid, and calcium disorders. The reader will become acquainted with areas where pediatric endocrinology is advancing and will be better equipped to provide care in these new and expanding areas.
