Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer increasingly used in dentistry as a metal-free biomaterial. It exhibits excellent biocompatibility, chemical stability, and low plaque affinity, making it suitable for long-term intraoral use. One of PEEK's major advantages is its elastic modulus (3-4 GPa), which is closer to that of cortical bone than titanium, allowing better stress distribution and reduced stress shielding around implants and prostheses.PEEK is lightweight, radiolucent, and does not interfere with CT or MRI imaging. Its tooth-colored appearance improves esthetics compared to metallic materials. In dentistry, PEEK is used for implant abutments, frameworks for fixed and removable prostheses, crowns, bridges, obturators, and orthodontic components.
