It is located to the south of the city of San Juan, and is predominantly argicultural, growing grapes and olive, with hills in the west. It also has a string of prestigious wineries that make up the so-called Wine Route. "Pocito" means "little pit" or "little hole" and was named after a supposed "little hole" where the legendary India Mariana found golden nuggets. The travelers of the past century was narrated that Pocito first green was appreciated coming from Mendoza. The Department Pocito arises because, along with the provision in the construction of the Canal Pocito, there would be the fragmentation of the land in the area designed by Dr. Jose Ignacio de la Roza, which is regarded as the founder of our city. Pocito was included in the third quarter of the Department of the South.
