This is an account of the history of the disease called polio in Britain. It includes 16 personal accounts of what it was like to contract the disease, to experience hospitalisation - sometime for years - while the disease and its consequences were treated. And it explains the problems that arise with the long-term effects of polio. In addition - the book includes a history of the public health issues and developments involved in the treatment of people with polio and the issues around the use and implementation of the polio vaccine. The development of the polio vaccine is covered, as is the history of the campaign to eradicate polio across the world led and started by the organisation called Rotary - which still support the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. All the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the eradication campaign. The author is a polio survivor and at the time of writing - the Rotary End Polio Now Coordinator for Great Britain and Ireland.
