Through this examination of "Nature and the Issues of Human Rights in the Political Thought of Thomas Hobbes," the primary aim is to present Hobbes as the originator of jus naturale and to show that the sum of his life experiences forms the foundation of the theory of natural rights. Second, it is noted that natural rights form the basis of human rights. Consequently, there is no hesitation in presenting Hobbes as the precursor of the idea of human rights. Finally, it becomes clear here that Thomas Hobbes, beyond his absolutism-for which he has been criticized-is a philosopher who can contribute to contemporary debates regarding human rights and the accompanying socio-political issues in Africa.
