This book analyzes the relationship between political education, contemporary political systems, and the development of critical citizenship among college students in Buenaventura, Colombia. The research stems from the need to understand how young people interpret democracy, the state, civic participation, and the social issues that characterize Latin American democracies, especially in regions marked by inequality, exclusion, and violence. The book argues that higher education plays a fundamental role in shaping citizens who are critical, engaged, and committed to social transformation. From this perspective, the university must not only impart academic knowledge but also promote democratic values, critical thinking, social responsibility, and civic participation.
