The surveillance of post-immunization adverse events (PIAEs) is an important tool for ensuring vaccine safety. It provides information on the incidence and risk factors for mild and serious PIAEs [1]. Although rare, serious AEFIs have been reported in individuals following vaccination, with life-threatening consequences that can lead to death; one possible cause may be the immune status of the vaccinated individual, related to an infection such as HIV or exposure to it. Compared to the general population, these reactions can be severe in individuals with immune deficiencies or who are at risk of such deficiencies, especially with live-attenuated vaccines such as OPV, BCG, or VAA; this is the case for children born to HIV-positive mothers.
