Prince of Ash and Root: Land the Lakes: 2

Peace was never on the table. The only question was how much it would cost to buy something close to it.A year after the burning of the forest, the Kingdom of Guerrero is dying by inches. The fields are ash. The Faates mock Kael with a new name whispered on every drum-filled night: the Prince of Ash and Root. And with the Mountain Clans and Desert Tribes both refusing aid, King Sharkeeno has only one hope left, the mysterious Land of the Lakes, a place no map in the kingdom has ever dared to draw.Fifteen now, and carrying the weight of a war he helped start, Kael sets out west with Laran and Callous once more, guided only by Raaph's warning and a stone that burns hotter with every mile. What they find beyond the mountains is a people older than the Faates, a warm and forward girl named Poznan who complicates things Kael isn't ready to examine, and an elder who knows Kael's family name better than Kael does himself. But the truth waiting at the Land of the Lakes is more dangerous than anything Kael faced in the forest - a secret about his own bloodline, a wanderer whose loyalties were never what they seemed, and a choice that will force Kael to decide exactly how much of his kingdom he's willing to destroy in order to save it.Some fires can be put out. Others simply change shape.
