Prison Pastor: Grace, Justice, and Humanity Behind Bars

Every gate has two sides. Rev. Dr. Billy J. Hill has walked through the one most people spend their lives trying to avoid.Prison Pastor is not a memoir. It is a ministry - a field report from behind the razor wire, written by a Baptist minister and institutional chaplain who went in to teach and came out having been taught. With unflinching honesty and hard-won grace, Rev. Dr. Hill takes you through the gate to meet the people the world drives past: the corrections officer carrying a weight he cannot name, the chaplain who keeps the cloak, the victim whose grief the gospel never forgets, the families serving an invisible sentence, and the condemned man in whom the image of God refuses to die. This is a book about the human heart - yours and mine, not only theirs. It will show you that everybody is doing time, that no cell block is off the map of God's presence, and that the grace of God has never once been stopped by a fence. Along the way you'll find ten things to tell a young person before the gate ever closes, one thing to tell the church after it has, and a testimony that will change the way you read your Bible. For the seminarian who has not yet made the phone call. For the church that does not know it is missing a harvest. For every human being on either side of every wire.Come through the gate. The harvest is real, it is ripe, and it is waiting.
