Professionalization of Educational Leadership in Africa for Sustainable Development: The Case Cameroon

Professionalizing educational leadership in Africa is critical for achieving sustainable development, moving from administrative-focused roles to competency-based, pedagogical, strategic, transformative leadership centered on instructional quality, community engagement, and data-driven decision-making and resource management. Initiatives focus on equipping leaders with skills for equity, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) focus on integrating sustainability into school management, such as the Lead-ESD program, which trains leaders to foster environmentally and socially responsible education; and sustainable resource management to align with AU Agenda 2063 and SDGs. Support Frameworks like the African Centre for School Leadership (ACSL) and other NGOs like the Cameroon Council for Educational Leadership and Management Society (CCELMS) in Africa promote collaborative efforts and evidence-based practices to improve school leadership in improving educational quality on the continent
