HIV remains a pandemic that has not yet been brought under control. The objective of our study is to describe the sociodemographic profile and immune status of people living with HIV (PLHIV) at the time of diagnosis and to identify factors associated with late diagnosis. This retrospective study includes all PLHIV newly diagnosed or referred after diagnosis to the Infectious Diseases Unit at HUJRB from 2004 to 2015. Four hundred twenty-one patients were included. The mean age was 31.3 ± 9.3 years, with a sex ratio of 1.68. Among the patients, 56.1% were single, 78.4% had a high level of education, 62.2% were heterosexual, and 39.9% were tested at the initiative of a healthcare provider. Patients were diagnosed at WHO stages III and IV and CDC stages B and C. Tuberculosis remained the primary comorbidity. Factors associated with a late diagnosis were age ¿ 25 years, female gender, heterosexuality, a low level of education, and being screened at the initiative of a healthcare provider.
