This book sets out to examine the relationship between progress and culture, analysing human beings and the forms of artistic and cultural expression that influence everyday life in society and their relationship with progress itself, demonstrating that progress and culture are complex concepts that must be understood in tandem. Building on these premises, we seek elements that will aid us in understanding the ontological and aesthetic foundations of human cultural and artistic production. Subsequently, we will introduce the debate among certain authors regarding Brazil's cultural, economic and political development, with a view to gaining a comprehensive understanding of the influences that the economy and political decisions-from the colonial era to the 20th century-have had on the entire formation of Brazilian culture. Finally, we will examine and analyse the current state of contemporary capitalism, aiming to integrate all the elements discussed thus far with the present reality, whilst offering some insights into possible perspectives within the Brazilian context.
