'Easy language' or 'accessible literature' is being touted as the latest breakthrough for people with reading difficulties. 'Pupils with reading difficulties' or 'people who do not have a strong command of German' are said to benefit from this simplified language. This book analyses whether, from a linguistic perspective, 'easy language' actually offers any benefits for the target group in question. Several works in 'easy language' were analysed according to criteria for language development to determine whether they can actually improve the reading skills of pupils with reading difficulties.
