Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a multi-resistant bacterium responsible for nosocomial and community-acquired infections. At the Military Hospital in Tunis, 633 strains were isolated between 2012 and 2015. The majority concerned men (sex ratio 2.4) with a peak in autumn and summer. The main sites of isolation were urine (29.4%), pus (23.7%), and lung samples (21.3%). The departments most affected were intensive care (41.3%) and surgery (25.1%). Resistance rates were 23% to ceftazidime, 32.6% to imipenem, 25.2% to amikacin, 32.9% to ciprofloxacin, and 38.2% to fosfomycin. A colistin-resistant strain was detected, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen surveillance and control of antibiotic therapy.
