Psychotrauma in Conflict Zones: Three Case Studies

This study focuses primarily on the categorization of trauma, the emotional lives of refugee children, and the clinical presentation of psychotraumatic syndrome. Clinical interviews and observation were used to identify both the latent and overt aspects of post-traumatic distress among refugees. In this study, we therefore adopted a psychoanalytic approach to psychopathology to interpret the children's statements and observed behaviors. The study was conducted entirely at the Goudebou refugee camp in Dori through the National Commission for Refugees (CO.NA.REF). Through our analysis of the three cases, we were able to identify different degrees of trauma: in HAMI and ALAAI, we noted an acute degree; in FAW, a high or chronic degree of post-traumatic disorders. The severity of post-traumatic stress disorders thus varies depending on the individual, their age and stage of development, personality and history, family environment, and recovery setting.
