Public participation in the tourism development programme: policies

This study aimed to analyse popular participation in the Tourism Development Programme in Bodoquena/MS, focusing on the structure and instruments used by the public authorities to encourage the participation of organised civil society involved in the development of local tourism in the region. The strategies outlined within the scope of the Tourism Development Programme - PRODETUR/SUL were based on the collective construction of a logical framework. The Tourism Development Programme - PRODETUR/SUL in the region of Bonito, Bodoquena and Jardim in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul was designed to encourage tourism, with a focus on revitalising and strengthening municipalities and social participation, while also aiming at regional development with a view to achieving sustainability and real benefits for the population of tourist areas through the implementation of new strategies based on popular participation and the strengthening of local management. With regard to popular participation, we note that horizontal communication is a necessary tool for public policies and local development.
