Major events in modern history told by two distinguished journalists. During an official visit of French president François Mitterand to Poland in 1989, two journalists meet and fall in love: a French woman, Mémona Hintermann, who was working as a reporter for France 3 and a German named Lutz Krusche, foreign correspondent for Der Spiegel. This is their story, a story of two remarkable, eventful lives. Born to a desperately poor family living on Reunion Island, Mémona made her way up to the top ranks of international journalism. After witnessing the end of Nazism, Lutz' family flees from the Red Army on foot in the snow and descends into poverty.
