When she arrives in Lyon to take up a post as university lecturer, Juliette Canard does not yet know how ferocious the academic world is. She is pretty in appearance and discourses charmingly, but in such a fierce environment, she is little more than a sitting duck... Qui trop embrasse (meaning "grasp all, loose all") is an exploration of the dark side of the academic world; here, the university is experienced as a corporeal world of sensations and desires. It is a world of sexual urges, where people hunt each other and devour each other. But if one can laugh at one's own demise, then it becomes less of a personal drama, more of a tragic-comedy: falls are burlesque, bites are grotesque, and crimes are nothing but crimes on paper. Judith Bernard has a PhD in Literature, Linguistics and Theater studies. She teaches French in Secondary schools in the suburbs of Paris. She is also actress and a producer for the theatre. She is a playwright, and Qui trop embrasse is her first novel.
