Recent Advances in Thyroid Disorders

The medical evaluation of thyroid disease has undergone significant advances in recent years. Within this book, the contributions of iodine and selenium to the physiology and pathophysiology of thyroid disorders are discussed. The diagnosis of thyroid nodules by ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration biopsy is evaluated. Recent advances in the treatment of thyroid nodules by thermal ablation are extensively discussed. The novel paradigm of the treatment of advanced and metastatic thyroid cancer by multi-targeted kinase and angiogenesis inhibitors is also presented.
