Registration of Statistical Data Civil Status Facts in the World

The book "Registration of Statistical Data of Civil Status Facts in the World" comprises four chapters analyzing global and local CRVS systems. Chapter one reviews global CRVS structures, noting high-income countries' advanced systems versus the underdeveloped systems in low- and middle-income countries, with persistent coverage gaps and a need for legal, political, and digital reforms. Chapter two focuses on Cotonou, Benin, revealing issues like infrastructure deficits, poor coordination, and cultural barriers leading to under-registration of vital events. Chapter three discusses legal gaps that hinder civil registrars, emphasizing the need for updated laws and institutional support. Chapter four offers recommendations to improve CRVS in Cotonou through modernization, digital tools, training, awareness and funding . Despite efforts, major challenges persist : low birth and death registration rates, poor inter-agency coordination, limited infrastructure, inadequate human and financial resources, social and cultural barriers, and weak data protection measures. Addressing these issues is essential for building an inclusive, accurate, and sustainable CRVS system.
