Religion Und Distanz

A Theological Redefinition of the Christian Concept of Religion Following the Myth Theories of Ernst Cassirer and Hans Blumenberg. What is religion? - In an age of religious pluralism, syncretism and new forms of spirituality, Hanna von Lingen embarks on a search for a new definition of the Christian concept of religion in the postmodern era. Examining the myth theories of Ernst Cassirer and Hans Blumenberg, she attempts to overcome a deep-seated reserve of theology towards myth and to gain new possibilities of description. Myth and religion are discussed as forms of thought and existence that shape culture, in whose interplay the dialectic of "execution" and "reflection" comes to the fore as an essential feature of the religious. Hanna von Lingen dares to redefine Christian religion as a resilience-building process of self-understanding of the subject, in whose non-reflective dimension lies an ultimately soteriologically determined surplus.
