Remembering the Days

Some loves do not become memories. They wait. At forty-two, Elena Ashdown has built a life that looks, from the outside, exactly as it should. A loving husband. Two perceptive children. A career she is genuinely good at. An Edinburgh house with an ash tree outside the window. Everything in its place except the part of herself she stopped looking at twenty years ago, on the evening she walked out of an Islington pub and chose, deliberately and at real cost, a different life. When a stranger's laugh on Edinburgh Street cracks open the past, she has been maintaining a careful distance. Elena begins the most honest project of her life: looking at everything, the love, the silence, the affair, the damage, the unfinished reckoning, without flinching, and without the editing that made it bearable for so long. Remembering the Days is a novel about what it finally means to be fully here.
