This book tells the story of three young children, now in theireighties, whose childhood was shattered by the murderousNazi regime in Zbaraz, a small township in Poland, nowUkraine. Though born into loving families, they lost theirchildhood, their families and their homes, at a very youngage. They also lost trust in the world being a safe place andthe idea that people are basically good. Fear and alonenessbecame part of their day-to-day life. To varying degrees, allthree were traumatized. Why did this happen? It happened because they were born into a particularreligious/ethnic group. They were Jewish. The book also recounts the work of some outstandingindividuals and organisations that took on the challenge ofhelping these children and their families, and indeed theremnants of the Jewish people, to survive the killings andrebuild their lives.
