Rheology of Human Seminal Fuid

Sperm rheology refers to the study of the flow and deformation properties of semen-that is, how sperm change shape and move under the influence of mechanical forces. In a medical and biological context, this field is important for assessing male fertility, as the fluidity, viscosity, and elasticity of seminal fluid influence the ability of sperm to move effectively and reach the egg. The main rheological parameters of semen include viscosity, which indicates the "thickness" of the seminal fluid. Normal viscosity supports good sperm motility, while increased viscosity may hinder movement. Low viscosity may indicate abnormalities in accessory gland secretions. Liquefaction time refers to the process by which semen, initially viscous after ejaculation, becomes fluid within 15-30 minutes due to prostatic enzymes. Delayed liquefaction may signal infection or prostate dysfunction.
