Robot Dreams and Suburban Nightmares

For Chris Bujold, every chapter of life begins with a movie. Every film unlocks a memory, revealing a personal story about growing up in suburban New Hampshire, navigating an imperfect family, becoming a husband and father, and ultimately facing unimaginable loss, all through the lens of 1980s and 1990s cinema and pop culture. Robot Dreams and Suburban Nightmares is a cinematic coming-of age memoir told through the films that defined a generation, a life, and a childhood. Bujold writes with the wit of a lifelong cinephile and the vulnerability of someone willing to revisit life’s happiest moments alongside its most painful ones. Whether recounting disastrous family vacations, neighborhood adventures, awkward teenage years, or the heartbreaking experience of saying goodbye to the woman who first taught him the magic of the movies, Bujold captures something universal: our favorite films become inseparable from the people with whom we shared them. Perfect for fans of personal memoirs, pop culture, and nostalgic storytelling, Robot Dreams and Suburban Nightmares is a celebration of the stories that shape us, the families who define us, and the unforgettable films that become part of who we are.
