This volume brings together the most important published work (together with one previously unpublished paper) of Professor R.I. Page on the subject which has intrigued him throughout his career: runes, the native script of the Germanic peoples. The articles, arranged chronologically, examine the question of runes from a variety of standpoints, but focus primarily on the use and development of the script amongst the Anglo-Saxons, and explore the history of scholarship in this field. There are also seminal studies of Scandinavian inscriptions in England and on the Isle of Man.
