Na de verpletterende nederlaag van de Kozakken in de strijd met het Rode Leger in 1917, kwamen veel van de overlevenden terecht in de diaspora. In 1921 richtte Serge Jaroff in een vluchtelingenkamp dicht bij Constantinopel een koor op. Hij wist toen nog niet dat dit koor, gevormd in een door cholera geteisterd kamp, een belangrijke naam in de internationale muziekwereld zou verwerven.Jaroff's concerten bestonden uit kerkmuziek en volksliederen. Dat programma wordt op deze twee CD's in ere gehouden: Liturgie en Requiem in zettingen van Tsjajkovski, Ippolitov-Ivanov, Bortnianski en Rachmaninov zijn één van de meest monumentale uitvoeringen in de geschiedenis van de Russisch Orthodoxe Kerkmuziek en gaan vooraf aan traditionele liederen.In deze 2 CD-box zijn tevens zeldzame opnames van het Jaroff Vrouwenkoor te horen.
