Sasol Guide to Birds of the Kruger National Park

A new photographic field guide to birds of the Kruger National Park, this book will feature 386 species that visitors are likely to see from public roads. The book will present four species per double page and will include an up-to-date distribution map for each species at a reasonable size. There will be a few photographs per species and these will include flight shots where relevant as well as different plumages - juvenile, female, etc. At the back will feature a list of remaining vagrants and rarities (140 species), ±18 species per page, without maps but with a one-line comment on their status (e.g. Recorded once at Pafuri in 1928). This will give the book a more comprehensive coverage for more serious birders who may like to see coverage of all species recorded in the park.

The Kruger National Park, one of the largest and best-known conservation areas in the world, supports a remarkable diversity of birds. This attractive and handy field guide lists more than 500 species that have been recorded here, and provides full-colour photographs, detailed distribution maps and succinct information on 400 of these – all the species that a visitor is likely to encounter in the park. An informative introduction describes the park’s underlying geology, vegetation types, climate and rainfall, and how these dictate bird distributions within the area.
