SIGNPOSTS ALOFT: How to Keep Your Bearings When the World Is Trying Turn You Around

What happens when what feels right isn't actually right?A pilot flying through clear skies can see the horizon and trust what his eyes tell him. But when the clouds close in and the horizon disappears, he must learn to trust his instruments instead. The Christian life can be much the same.Every day, we encounter voices telling us what is true, what matters, how we should live, and who we should become. Those voices come from friends, teachers, entertainment, social media, advertising, popular culture-and sometimes from our own feelings. But sincerity does not make a belief true. Strong feelings do not make a perception reliable. Popularity does not make an idea correct.Signposts Aloft uses the language of aviation to explore how Christians can remain spiritually oriented when cultural pressure, emotions, uncertainty, temptation, and competing ideas obscure the horizon.John Bailey examines: - Why our own perceptions can deceive us - How cultural pressure gradually reshapes our thinking - Why feelings are real without always being reliable - How to read and understand Scripture carefully - The dangers of proof-texting and reading verses out of context - How friends, teachers, media, and other voices disciple us - Why Christians need godly community and wise mentors - What it means to trust God's guidance when circumstances are unclear - How to recognize when you have gotten off course-and correct your heading - Why faithful Christian living sometimes requires the courage to be different Rather than encouraging Christians to withdraw from the world, Signposts Aloft calls them to engage it from a position of biblical stability rather than cultural drift. Each chapter includes study questions and practical Flight Check exercises suitable for individual reflection, youth groups, Sunday schools, Christian schools, college Bible studies, homeschool groups, and other small-group settings. The objective is simple: Learn to recognize the difference between what feels true and what is true. Learn to check your instruments. And above all, keep your eyes upon Jesus.
