This study introduces a novel approach to flow measurement in open rectangular channels. Challenging conventional wisdom, it demonstrates the possibility of achieving a nearly linear depth-discharge relationship, even in a rectangular channel. The research introduces a novel optimization technique to determine flow parameters, offering a near-linear equation that holds true within a specific range of flow depths with minimal deviation, typically within ±2% error. In case of earlier flow measuring devices the devices were intrusive weather it is weirs or flumes, a modification in the structure was required whereas in the proposed flow measuring device no change is required.
