Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Arunachal Pradesh

This book offers an in-depth study of the functioning of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh. Drawing from extensive fieldwork, the study reveals that SMEs face multiple challenges while the district shows promising signs of industrial growth under the new state industrial policy. These include poor infrastructure, inadequate financing, limited access to raw materials, and under utilisation of capacity. Most enterprises operate in urban centers, with very few in rural areas. The book highlights the dominance of local sole proprietors, the scarcity of young and female entrepreneurs, and a lack of marketing and technical innovation. Despite some institutional support and government initiatives, the sector struggles due to a complex credit process, low productivity, and intense market competition. Comprehensive suggestions are offered to boost entrepreneurship, improve infrastructure, streamline credit access, and promote inclusive SME development.
