The Social Democratic Party or Equality Party (Faroese: Javnaðarflokkurin) is a centre-left, social-democratic, political party in the Faroe Islands, led by Jóannes Eidesgaard. At the legislative elections, 19 January 2008, the party won 19.3% of the popular vote and 6 out of 32 seats. At the legislative elections, 20 January 2004, the party won 21.8% of the popular vote and 7 out of 33 seats. The party wants to maintain the link of the Faroe Islands with Denmark, but is not as adamant about it as the Union Party. Its youth organization Sosialistiskt Ungmannafelag has been founded in 1965.
